Exciting Breakthrough in China's 6G Technology!

China's telecommunications sector has made a groundbreaking leap forward! The fusion of communication and intelligence has led to significant advancements in 6G key technologies, allowing 4G and 5G links to achieve 6G transmission capabilities.


China has established the world’s first 6G field test network that integrates communication and intelligence, enhancing performance across all major 6G scenarios. This achievement was unveiled at the "Information Theory: Classical and Modern" academic seminar hosted by the Chinese Institute of Communications on July 10, 2024, in Beijing.

Traditional communication technologies have been reaching their theoretical limits, facing challenges such as limited capacity, high coverage costs, and increased system energy consumption. Unlike conventional modular communication, the new communication technology, which merges communication and intelligence, optimizes end-to-end processes, significantly improving overall system performance with a simpler network structure.

Professor Xu Xiaodong from Beijing University of Posts and Telecommunications highlighted that the integrated communication technology replaces modular separation optimization with end-to-end optimization, enhancing system performance. Academician Zhang Ping's team has verified the feasibility of 4G and 5G links achieving 6G capabilities through this integrated approach, showcasing notable improvements in capacity, coverage, and efficiency. Their findings have been published in the Journal of Communications.

Compared to 5G, 6G offers higher speeds, lower latency, and broader connection density, with deep integration of AI and intelligent sensing. "The new generation of communication technology must shift from incremental to disruptive innovation," said Zhang Ping.

The deep integration of communication and intelligence marks a crucial direction in the evolution of communication technology. AI will enhance communication's sensing and  semantic understanding capabilities, while 6G will extend AI's reach into every corner of various fields, accelerating the formation of a new digital economy.
